ios 13 Optimized Battery Charging

Apple unveils iOS 13 at the WWDC with lots of cool new can check out 201+ features of iOS 13. One of the most underrated feature is optimized battery charging. The first thing that I want you to know is that it is available to all the iPhones that support iOS 13, starting from iPhone SE, 6S to iPhone XS Max.

Why does Apple implement Optimized Battery Charging?

Most of the users charge their iPhones overnight but it is not a good idea to charging lithium ion batteries for the whole night. It damages the battery and reduces the life span of it. Leaving the battery on charger when its fully charged harms the battery in many ways. Once the phone gets 100% it activates trickle charges to keep it at 100% while connected to the charger. If you still don’t know what I mean, you might be wondering is it better to charge a battery slowly?

No, absolutely no. Charging your smartphone battery slowly will not only activate trickle charge but also it will produce heat which is not good for your smartphone.

To fix this problem, apple comes up with a feature “Optimized Battery Charging”

What is Optimized Battery Charging?

Apple uses Machine learning to learn the user behavior and optimize the charging according to the user.

Apple’s official description to the feature

“To reduce battery aging, iPhone learns from your daily charging routine so it can wait to finish charging past 80% until you need to use it.“

Once you enable this feature, your iPhone learns your daily charging pattern like if your working, you usually go to bed at the same time and wake up at the same time or close to it so your charging pattern might be from when you go to bed to the morning when u wake up say 10 to 6. It might differ but your iPhone learns your daily charging routine and understands your pattern.

After it understood, it will stop charging your iPhone at 80% and wait for you to pick up the iPhone. But right before you pick up, it starts charging from 80% to 100%. So if you wake up at 6, the iPhone will start charging before 30 mins or depending upon the time required for your iPhone to go from 80 to 100.

By this way, it preserves the battery and as well as it gives you 100% of charge when you wake up.
